Pan-Africanism: A Primer + BRICS - A View from South Africa
Our series on African Revolutions and Decolonization is ramping up with a marvelous second episode, plus an episode with someone integral to South Africa's role in BRICS
Dear Guerrilla History listeners,
African Revolutions and Decolonization is in full swing - episode 2 just came out yesterday and was a 2+ hour blockbuster featuring two incredible guests. Prof. Layla Brown (Prof of Cultural Anthropology & Africana Studies whose research focuses on Pan-African, Socialist, and Feminist social movements in Venezuela, the US, and the broader African Diaspora, and member of the All-African People’s Revolutionary Party (GC)),and Jacquie Luqman (radical activist, journalist, and is a coordinator with Black Alliance for Peace.) join us to discuss the history, theoretical currents, and modern expressions of Pan-Africanism. You certainly aren’t going to want to miss Pan-Africanism: A Primer w/ Layla Brown & Jacquie Luqman (AR&D Ep.2). Also, if you haven’t told your comrades about this series, this is a great entry point before we dive into the case studies. Speaking of case studies, the next episode of the series will be on the Mau Mau Uprising, so be sure to stay tuned for that in two weeks.
We also recently had an episode that was not part of the AR&D series, but still focuses on a particular part of the continent, namely South Africa. Prof. Narnia Bohler-Muller, who is a divisional executive in the Human Sciences Research Council of South Africa's Developmental, Capable and Ethical State research division and acting Group Executive: Shared Services, joined us for this one. She is a lawyer and former Professor at Nelson Mandela University, and was one of the individuals involved in South Africa's admission to BRICS and many of the discussions since then surrounding SA's place in the grouping. These roles position her extremely well to discuss the topics we hit - South Africa's role in BRICS, the view of BRICS in South Africa, South Africa's case against Israel at the ICJ, a new National Health Insurance law in SA, and more. This is really a great conversation, and hopefully helps you in thinking more about South Africa's role in BRICS when you have discussions about that grouping. Be sure to catch BRICS - A View from South Africa w/ Prof. Narnia Bohler-Muller!
